The Knot System may also be used to translate verbal relationships from one language to another. Below is a list over English verbal relationships within three generations distance from the proband. For every verbal relation all possible basic relationship types covered by the verbal expression are specified together with their corresponding KinCode element(s).
If a similar table sorted on the KinCode existed for a different language, it would be an easy task when the correct KinCode was found in the English table below, to look-up the same KinCode in the other language's table and there find the correct relationship description and verbal relation expression.
In many cases the verbal relation expression implicitly specifies the gender of either the proband or the relative. For a fully automated translation process, it will be necessary in the tables also to specify these implicitly specified genders, and incorporate them in the translation process. For instance the Danish language has a special word for a male cousin: "Fætter", and a different word: "Kusine" defining a female cousin.
